Matt grew up in country NSW, near the beach and in the country which gave him a special appreciation for landscape. As an impressionable teenager, Matt spent several years living in remote and cold parts of Canada where the contrast of the landscape to sun burnt NSW was dramatic. As a child, Matt was always drawing and absorbed in animation, film and comics.

Matt studied civil engineering, law and a masters of commerce at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. While studying, he became involved in publishing in his spare time. Matt spent many years working as a freelance graphic designer and artist in both print and web. Clients included international accounting firms, multinational soft drink manufacturers, telcos, various advertising agencies and charities. Matt’s work has been showcased in various issues of Design Graphics with artists from all over the world.

Matt furthered his artistic education by studying at Julian Ashton, the National Art School and Grosvenor Studios. He also spent time in Europe in the major galleries studying the old masters. Matt is currently working as a commercial illustrator / animator (Aristocrat) and paints traditional oil paintings for private clients. He is based in Paddington, Sydney.

Matt offers free video tutorials on “How to Draw” for absolute beginners, through to “Masterclasses” for seasoned professionals on his website:

Thanks jvel4073 and feel free to add me to your watch list. You've got some really cool pencil drawings. In your artworks, try to watch your lineweights as I think they really help give artworks interest.

Always nice to hear schwarzeeis. I'm digging your 3D work and if I may make a suggestion. What some of the superhero renders feel they need is a secondary / key light. It is a 2nd light source that will help define the forms a little more and stop everything feeling like it is in a dark room. Minor thing though.
